TRANSITION LAWN SHADE
GRASSES - MID AMERICA Shade problems
lawns in transition zone areas are generally planted with
Creeping Red Fescues /
Fine Fescues. This grass is mixed both with
Bluegrasses and with Tall Fescues in shade mixes. Creeping
Red is also planted often as a mono-stand in the Transition zone
area, especially in shady areas.
Tall Fescues have a certain amount of shade tolerance and
include fine fescues in shade mixes for best performance. As
you move into heavier shade problems the Fine Fesuces become the
best choice
Varieties used for transition shade solutions
and sold online by Seedland.com are:
PRIMARILY TALL FESCUES
(with fine fescue mixed in)
PRIMARILY
FINE FESCUES:
Zoysia's are also used in shade
situations in lower transition zones on into Southern warm season
areas. Zoysias are less
tolerant of shade the cooler the climate. Both plugs
(existing lawns / new lawns) and seeds (new lawns only) are
available.
